Morro Moreno is the name given to a park near the beach Juan Lopez close to Antofagasta. Property of the Air Force of Chile, this hill is one of the six mist oasis in Chile, this means that it receives moisture from the sea. It is about 1,000 meters above sea level and is noted for a variety of flora and fauna, including some types of cactus and flowers that are unique in the region.

Within the vegetation species that can be found are Eulychnia, Copiapoa, Eriosyce, Echinopsis, Heliotropium, Ephedra, Lycium, Cynanchum, Viola, Argythamnia, Nolana, Tetragonia, all with valuable chemical compounds used to treat diseases.

In terms of fauna, the coastal sector of the hill is inhabited by a number of sea lions, and otters, although these last ones show themselves less.

It is important to mention the arqueological relevance of the site, in which you can find rests of the antique fishermen called changos, and also paleontological tracks.

An important news for its preservation is that now it will become part of the National System of Protected Areas of the State.

Just a couple hours away from San Pedro, this park deserves a visit.

Its scientific name is Browningia candelaris, Britton & Rose gave the name in honor of WE Browning, director of the British Institute in Santiago de Chile. And because of the peculiar form that characterizes it, the common name is Candelabrum Cactus.

With the size of a tree – it can reach 5 meters- it usually has several branches at the top giving the appearance of a candelabrum. It grows naturally in the highlands, from 1700 to 3000 meters above the sea, in conditions of extreme dryness. Only found in regions of Arica, Tarapaca and Parinacota, specifically on the route from Arica to Bolivia and the Valley of Cardones, where more abundant.

This valley, immersed in the desert, is protected by the province of Arica and has a rich biodiversity. Its various species of cacti are clear examples of plant adaptation to a hostile environment.

If you travel around the area, you can not miss them.

In any dry weather in the world we have to follow certain special measures for protecting our skin, if we consider that Atamaca desert is the driest in the planet, then even more you have to read these tips.

Women are already accustomed to care for our skin so we must help men and especially children and elderly travelers in our group to take the same precautions, as the merciless sun affect us all equally.

The human skin is the largest organ of the body. To care of it, the first thing to do is drink lots of water, more water than normal, and hydrate the body, hair and skin.

Look for products with Proteo-C and Proflavonol-T, two vitamins that protect skin from the sun and other environment factors, also pay attention to use Paraben Free products. In the possible use only natural products.

It´s ideal to twice a day cleanse, tone and moisturize the face and neck. In the morning end the routine with a minimum sun factor of 30 and afternoon moisten well. On the lips we recommend using a higher SPF as they tend to dry out and crack easily with dry air.

Remember to take with you always plenty of fresh water, wear thin clothing that covers your skin and wear a hat. It will protect you and give the perfect look for going around the desert of San Pedro!
