To be at 4320 m above sea level al t 4am, may seem like a hard task, but every second is worth it and so are the -10 or 12 degrees celsius. The experience is truly divine. The geisers smoke at dawn, the mountain is alive.

Under the earth, the water currents meet the liquid lava from the surrounding volcanoes and rise to the surface. The place is of such breathtaking beauty and just when you thought it couldn´t get any better the hotel guides set the table for a full breakfast on site.

As you climb the mountain in the comfort of the van, you barely see where you are being taken, as the sun rises and you reach the geisers, the world is new. You have reached the highest geothermal fields on the planet and all  around you the earth rumbles lightly.

When you come back down the rolling andes, the mountains sit clear against the sky, vicuñas and suris roam the sandy fields enjoying the sun and the rough grass “paja brava”. The miracle of life is the note the desert sings at all heights. The rest of your day this energy remains in you: after all you have touched the sky.

Subir a 4320 m sobre el nivel del mar, a las 4am puede parecer una tarea ardua, pero vale la pena cada minuto del asenco y los  -10 ó -12 grados. La experiencia es realmente divina. Los geisers humean al amanecer, la montaña está viva.

Bajo tierra, las corrientes de agua se encuentran con las de lava y salen a superficie, vivas y bullentes. El lugar es de una belleza conmovedora y luego de pasear por entre las columnas de vapor, de ver el agua hirviendo salir en borbotones desde dentro de la tierra, los guías del hotel preparan un desayuno completo en el lugar.

Al subir se vislumbra apenas el paisaje que se atraviesa, por lo que otro premio a la aventura de la mañana es la bajada. Montañas que se dibujan contra el cielo en tonos suaves, la paja brava y las vicuñas con sus crías. El milagro de vida que es el desierto en todas sus alturas. Y el resto del día, la energía de esta experiencia permanece: los geisers nos acercan al cielo.

From the moment you arrive they will take care of you and every detail in the excursions: equipment, wonderful meals and snacks, individual water bottles, great bicycles and helmets, the lot. This is because working in the desert can only come from loving the desert and each of the guides will personalize the Atacama experience for you because of this.

Add to this the fact that all the guides have been trained to make the best of your experience: they know the place, the sports and the best times. As  you know, Alto Atacama works with NOLS and is always environmentaly aware in all of it´s outings, this is a key part of the character and relationship that the hotel has with the setting.

El sueño de todo pasajero en un hotel bien manejado, es saber que se cuenta con un equipo de gente sonriente, energética, de buena disposición, que hace sentir a cada huésped especial y que deja espacio para que uno también se distraiga y descanse. En la foto vemos a una parte de los guías del Hotel, al fondo está Matías Alamo, jefe de guías y de izquierda a derecha: Chantal, Alejandra y Joel. Desde  la llegada, el equipo de Alto Atacama se hará cargo de cada detalle. No falta nada cuando uno sale en excursión con los guías: las colaciones más fabulosas, botellas de agua, equipo técnico, buenas bicicletas y mucha alegría. Trabajar en el medio del desierto es una vocación de amor, cada uno de los guías será capaz de introducirlos con conocimiento al fabuloso paisaje.

Todos los guías son personas preparadas para llevar grupos o individuos a encontrar lo que será una experiencia inolvidable en Atacama.
